Cabin Filters explained - changing them & choosing the right one

Cabin Filters, also known as Pollen Filters, protect you and your passengers from pollutants, dust, and pollen from the outside world. With Spring known as the windy season and Summer around the corner, a clean Cabin Filter is more important than ever.

We always get questions on our Cabin Filters, so we’ve written a blog answering them all!

Why do you need to change them?

During the spring & summer, our Cabin Filters work overtime, filtering out pollen, debris, and helping our HVAC deliver cool air. Many service schedules recommend changing cabin filters around 30,000km - 50,000km. However, there is no harm in doing regular checks and we suggest a check before Spring in August and at the end of Spring in December.
The importance of regular checks & cleaning

  • Maintain efficient heating & cooling
  • Improve air quality
  • Reduce unpleasant odors from entering the vehicle
  • Protect you from fumes & dust from surrounding trucks or dirt roads
  • Reduce airborne allergen particles, which can aggravate allergy & hayfever symptoms.

Where they're located & how to change them.

The placement and fitment for cabin filters vary from vehicle to vehicle - which is why it's important to refer to the installation information for your particular cabin filter.

Below is where you can find information for each cabin filter sold on the VCM Performance website

Where you can find installation information

K&N Installation Information can be found under ADDITIONAL INFORMATION under the product imagery - once selected ADDITIONAL INFORMATION will appear black & underlined.

Choosing the right one.

VCM Performance range both K&N Cabin Air Filters and K&N Disposable Cabin Filters. Some things to consider when deciding which one to go with are:

  • Cost: Non-Disposable Cabin Filters are more expensive, however can be used for longer than Disposable Cabin Filters, which require more frequent changing.
  • Maintenance: To keep your Non-Disposable Cabin Filter fresh, regular cleaning with 99-6000 is required. Disposable Cabin Filters require no maintenance, just dispose of when needed and replace with a new one.

The choice ultimately comes down to personal preference and vehicle suitability - so be sure to check vehicle applications when selecting a Cabin Filter
